Life Cycle Data for Hydroelectric Generation at Trollheim Power Station
Background data for Updating Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)
Statkraft initiated a process for documenting the environmental impacts of hydroelectric generation at Trollheim power station through a thorough Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in 1998. Based on the 1998 analysis an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) was prepared in 2007 to facilitate easy communication of the LCA results. As the 2007 EPD expired in October 2012, Statkraft wanted to update the EPD. This report documents physical changes at Trollheim power station from 2007-2011 and is the basis for an updated version of the 2007 EPD. All environmental impacts are given per 1 kWh of hydroelectricity produced, the declared unit of the EPD-study. The EPD was conducted in accordance with ISO 14025 (ISO standard for EPD), ISO 14044 and PCR 2007:08.
This report describes the background data that are the basis for the updated EPD, and describes the background analysis and processes that have been carried out during the analysis. In addition it accounts for the methods that are used during the analysis, and presents the results of the study.
The EPD is reviewed in accordance with current requirements for verification set by The Norwegian EPD Foundation (www.epd-norge.no) and can be found as an attachment to this report.
The analysis is conducted by Silje Arnøy, with technical support from Ingunn Saur Modahl. Ingunn Saur Modahl has verified the data and Cecilia Askham has verified the EPD’s in accordance with the PCR covering hydroelectric generation.
This EPD will be valid for five years from the date of approval, until 2018.
